We are honored to share that the Illinois State Champion Yellow Birch—recognized as the largest of its kind in the state—is featured as Natural Land Institute's Legacy Tree Program's April Tree of the Month. Located on the grounds of the Stephenson County Historical Society Museum & Arboretum, this remarkable tree has held its title since 1983 and remains on the Illinois Big Tree Register 40 years later. Originally planted on land once owned by Oscar and Malvina Taylor, it stands as a living legacy of their love of nature and the rich history of our arboretum. We invite you to visit this extraordinary tree during museum hours or our upcoming Perennial Plant Sale, May 15–17.
