Resources at the Museum

The Stephenson County Museum has recently developed a small resource library. This library brings together all the books, documents, photos, etc that have been collected by the society since 1944.  It is open to the public by appointment.  The library is currently being cataloged and the results will be posted on this page when completed.

The museum does not specialize in genealogical research.  Most of our records relate to businesses, schools, and general local histories.

You can contact the museum staff by phone (815-232-8419) or email (director@stephcohs.org or o.taylor1857@gmail.com) for more information or to make an appointment.

Microfilm of local newspapers can be accessed at the Freeport Public Library's local history room.  To find out when the room is open, call the library at 815-233-3000.
